What's Next? Checklist

After students register for courses:

  1. Give students login information for their DLC email accounts (hosted by www.gaggle.net). Email accounts will be accessible within 24 hours of registration. Students should check their email accounts on their course start date for a "welcome" email and other important information (see note below about UW courses).
  2. Let students know who their Teacher/Mentor will be. And inform students about how and when to access their online courses during the school day.
  3. Any textbooks or materials ordered for courses in the registration process will be sent to the attention of the Teacher/Mentors. Students should keep in touch with their Teacher/Mentors during the first few days of the course to make sure they receive everything they need.
  4. Some course providers require students to complete an orientation before starting the course; others have orientation information available. The DLC highly recommends that students take the time to orient themselves to their courses as soon as possible so that nothing important is missed.
  5. Once your student has been enrolled in the online course, the Teacher/Mentor will also start to receive communications from the online course provider. The various communications expected from each provider are outlined here.
  6. Contact the DLC as soon as possible if either student or Teacher/Mentor communications have not been received by the student's start date.

While students are waiting for their courses to start, have them take a tour of the Start-Up Demo Accounts. They'll get practice accessing online courses. And you know what they say: Practice makes perfect!

The University of Washington will not send "welcome" emails. Letters will be mailed to the Teacher/Mentors, providing information about UW Net IDs and start-up procedures. Student VHS login information is found within the DLC registration system by the Teacher/Mentor assigned to work with the student.
