Bookmarks Help
What can I do with the Bookmarks tool?
- Save links to articles, resources, and websites. You can bookmark anything on the web, including articles and resources you find through the DLC!
- Share your bookmarks with others. Save a bunch of links, then share them with other students or teachers.
- Find useful bookmarks that others have saved. Browse through the Popular Bookmarks or Top Categories to find bookmarks.
How do I get started?
Create an account. Accounts are free for students, teachers, and parents from DLC member-schools.
If you already have an account, sign in and start saving links!
Save links
To create a bookmark:
- Find a page you'd like to bookmark (for example, an article from the DLC Library).
- Click on Create Bookmark.
- Enter the title, URL (web address), and description for your bookmark.
- Add categories, if you want (see below for more info).
When you create a bookmark, you can assign it a "category." The category can be one word or several words. Type the word(s) into the Category field, and the system will "tag" your bookmark to that category. Later, you can click on a category to retrieve all of the bookmarks with that tag.
A category can be anything you want.
Examples:
- Subjects, like
biologyoralgebra. - Class names, like
3rd_periodorAP_Physics. That way, you can collect resources for a given class together. - Project names, like
animal_research_paperorsenior_project.
Share your bookmarks
You can easily share your bookmarks with others. Go to the web page that lists your bookmarks, copy the URL (web address), and send it to others. Here's an example URL:
http://www.learningcommons.org/bookmarks/jdoe
If you have created categories, you can share all the bookmarks in a specific category. Go to the web page that lists your categories, copy the URL (web address), and send it to others. Here's an example URL:
http://www.learningcommons.org/bookmarks/dlc_pathfinder/categories/biology
The DLC Bookmarks system is the only system you can use to bookmark many DLC resources, especially library resources. And the system makes it easy for others to access your links.
If you'd like more control over how your bookmarks are displayed, create a Bookmark Page and customize the view.
Find useful bookmarks
See what kinds of resources other people are finding by exploring the Popular Bookmarks or Top Categories sections. When you've found a good one, you can save it to your Bookmarks account by clicking Save.
