7 New Wonders of the World

Around the second century BC, with some of the first references found in works by Herodotus, Callimachus of Cyrene and Mouseion. A final list was established during the Middle Ages, which comprised all of the seven most impressive monuments. Following, multiple lists were compiled for various accomplishments. The list includes such wonders as: seven wonders of the ancient world, seven wonders of the medieval world, seven natural wonders of the world, seven underwater wonders of the world, and the seven wonders of the modern world to name a few.

In more recent times, the seven wonders of the modern world have been greatly studied and reported on. These include: Big Ben, Eiffel Tower, Gateway Arch, Aswan High Dam, Hoover Dam, Mount Rushmore, and the Petronas Towers. For many, seeing the 7 wonders of the world is part of many lists to do before one dies. For others, it is a must for world travelers. And for the rest of the world, it's the seven most fascinating and breathtaking cites of our world today.

Now, USA Today and Good Morning America have come together to produce the seven new wonders of the world. Every week, on air Good Morning America will travel the world and air one of the new wonders until November 17th. So far, they have revealed: Hawaiian Marine Monument, Polar ice caps, Old City Jerusalem, Potala Palace in Tibet, and most recently (and most interestingly) the Internet.

Yes the technological wonder has made its way into record books along with Polar Ice Caps and the Taj Mahal. Some have argued that the Internet is not a tangible place, but scientists agree the net is a 'place,' in the sense that you can go to it. Which, in essence, is true.

The Internet, as their scientists have established, is a reflection of the enlightenment of the modern world. They say that the 20th century's greatest achievement has been the Internet, and the ways it has changed the world are the reasons why it should be included in the new list.
