A 60's Revolution?
A recent article in USA Today claims Generation Y-18 to 25 year olds- seem to be more socially, environmentally, and politically conscious than generations in the past. Some critics even compare the generation to those of our fathers and mothers of the 60's and 70's. While the youth of the 60's and 70's were most definitely fighting for more extreme causes, such as Civil Rights, Women's Rights, and the Vietnam War, there are many similarities to causes occurring now.
The first and foremost is the current Iraq War. Many youth run organizations, primarily on college campuses, have been active in participating or leading demonstrations against the war, as well as educating the people through blogs, on campus demonstrations, flyering, and the Internet movement.

Other tragedies of the time include Hurricane Katrina and September 11, both of which young people were documented in volunteering with in various ways. In a survey conducted by USA Today, it found that the majority of young people believe it is in their power to make a difference, believe in assisting those less fortunate, and believe volunteer work and giving back to the community is important.
While the generation often gets criticized for certain trends that seem to appear, it is clear that that majority of Generation Y believes in the world and believes in making a difference. While so many young people hope to never hear the words "You are just like your mother/father," if being like them means fighting for causes we believe in and making a difference, maybe being like them isn't so bad.
