Washington State Indian Education Conference
March 29th through the 31st marked the 22nd annual Washington State Indian Education Association Conference. The conference featured various workshops and speakers on a variety of topics relating to Indian education. The Digital Learning Commons also had a table at the conference, and held two workshops, one on Wednesday and one on Thursday. The topic of the DLC workshops was "Technology That Supports Indian Education". The purpose of the workshops was to teach interested participants about some of the online resources, both free and offered by the DLC, that can assist Indian educators and their students. The workshops focused on five areas:
- WASL Preparation
- Online Courses and Self-paced Learning Systems
- Lesson Planning Resources
- Online Tutoring and Mentoring
- College and Career Planning
Within each of these topics, we discussed not only the online resources available, but also the best practices that the DLC has developed to utilize these tools and techniques to their fullest potential.
