Memorial for the Murdered Jews of Europe

After years of planning, building, and minor set backs, The Memorial for the Murdered Jews of Europe was unveiled today in Berlin. This is the first memorial of its kind, meaning that is was built by the Germans for the Jewish. The memorial is composed of 2,711 uneven concrete slabs, which, when walked through, create a feeling of disorientation, instability, and sense of groundlessness. The memorial will be accessible to vistitors 24 hours a day, almost every day of the year.
